After 7 days held hostage without food, water, or the basic legal protections she was entitled to, U.S. veteran Jessica Clotfelter has returned home. @baefranklin was detained alongside 450 others attempting to break the illegal blockade of Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid — a mission of solidarity and justice. A Mexican–Palestinian solidarity mural in Pilsen was vandalized, community members were attacked, while peacefully creating art. The targeted act was treated as a hate crime, sparking outrage and calls for accountability. Attorney Farah Chalisa, representing the victims, emphasized: “The way this case is handled going forward will tell us whose lives the City of Chicago is willing to protect.” Community leaders, including 25th Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez, CAIR-Chicago, and the Mural Movement, demanded urgent action from the Chicago Police Department to ensure the attacker is held accountable and the community is protected.
